How Low Can You Go? by Tom Chesshyre reviewed by #travelbookclub

This month #travelbookclub read How Low Can You Go? by Tom Chesshyre, which documented the author’s travels around Europe on super-cheap flights. However, the catch was that because the flights were so low-cost, it often meant that he ended up in unusual destinations, which are not on the typical tourist trails.

As he gets into the habit of buying tickets for as low as 1p (plus taxes) Chesshyre finds himself exploring towns and cities in countries including Poland, Bulgaria, Finland and Estonia. He is often greeted by bemused locals and ecstatic tourist board officials – and even town mayors – as he aims to find out what makes these places tick.

While he often ends up experiencing the highlights of a place, there are also some not-so-great experiences – proving that sometimes, unfortunately, you do get what you pay for.

Nevertheless, on the whole the experience was a positive one and #travelbookclub members agreed that it had inspired them to consider more off-the-beaten-track destinations
